Paper Worlds / 01: The Ice Cream Loyalty Card

It started with a wedding welcome party at an ice cream shop.

Which, obviously, meant it needed its own loyalty program.

My completely reasonable response: invent one.

Welcome to the Frequent Scooper Club

Instead of a traditional invitation card, I designed something that looked like it belonged behind the counter of a slightly fictional neighborhood ice cream shop: Jessica & Jason’s Frequent Scooper Card.

Red and white stripes. Tiny ice cream cones. A cheerful little ice cream mascot. And eight loyalty punches—already filled in by the couple.

Because their guests are regulars before they've even arrived.

Flip the card over and what looks like a piece of ice cream shop ephemera becomes the invitation:

Redeem this card for one complimentary scoop (and pizza!) as our guest at the Welcome Party.

The date, location and party details are all there. But instead of simply telling guests they're going to an ice cream party, the invitation lets them enter that world before the weekend even begins.

Why stop at an invitation?

That's the idea behind Paper Worlds.

I love beautiful invitations. But I'm even more interested in what happens when the paper becomes part of the experience itself.

A key card can be an RSVP.
A coaster can invite you to cocktails.
A matchbook can lead you to the after party.

And apparently, a wedding welcome party can have its own ice cream loyalty program.

Because the best paper doesn't just announce the party.

It belongs to it.
